Simplify Recurring Payments with FinancePe

An e-Mandate (Electronic Mandate) is a digital payment authorization that allows a customer to provide consent for recurring payments to be automatically debited from their bank account or payment instrument at predefined intervals. It replaces traditional paper-based mandates with a secure, paperless process, making recurring payments more efficient, reliable, and convenient.

Managing recurring payments has never been easier. FinancePe e-Mandate solution enables businesses and customers to automate recurring collections securely and efficiently. With a one-time digital authorization, customers can allow scheduled debits from their bank accounts, eliminating the need for repeated payment approvals.

e-Mandates are designed to simplify recurring payment management for both consumers and businesses. Customers benefit from a hassle-free payment experience, while businesses can automate collections, improve payment success rates, and reduce operational costs associated with manual billing and follow-ups.

The registration process is completely digital and typically involves secure authentication through methods such as net banking, debit cards, UPI, or other bank-approved verification mechanisms. After successful authentication, the mandate is securely registered, allowing future payments to be processed automatically according to the specified frequency and amount.

e-Mandate Process

How Does e-Mandate Work?

An e-Mandate follows a simple, secure, and fully digital process that enables automatic recurring payments without requiring customers to authorize every transaction manually. Once the mandate is successfully registered, future payments are processed automatically according to the agreed schedule.

01

Customer Initiates the e-Mandate

The process begins when a customer selects e-Mandate as the preferred payment option while signing up for a recurring service or making a payment. The customer enters the required banking details, such as the bank account information or payment instrument, and agrees to the merchant's recurring payment terms.

02

Review and Provide Consent

Before the mandate is registered, the customer is presented with the complete mandate details, including:

  • Merchant or biller name
  • Payment amount (fixed or variable)
  • Payment frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc.)
  • Start date and validity period
  • Maximum debit limit (if applicable)
  • Terms and conditions

The customer reviews these details and provides explicit consent to authorize recurring payments.

03

Secure Authentication

To verify the customer's identity and ensure secure authorization, the e-Mandate is authenticated using a bank-approved method. Depending on the bank and payment network, authentication may include:

  • Net Banking
  • Debit Card Authentication
  • UPI Authentication
  • Aadhaar-based Authentication (where applicable)
  • One-Time Password (OTP)
  • Other secure digital verification methods

This authentication confirms that the customer has willingly authorized the recurring payment.

04

Mandate Registration

Once authentication is successful, the e-Mandate is electronically registered with the customer's bank and the applicable payment system. The bank validates the request and stores the mandate information securely for future recurring transactions.

The customer receives confirmation that the mandate has been successfully created and activated.

05

Automatic Recurring Payments

On each scheduled payment date, the merchant submits a payment request based on the registered mandate. The bank processes the transaction and automatically debits the authorized amount from the customer's account without requiring a fresh authorization for every payment.

The payment is then transferred to the merchant, ensuring timely and seamless collections.

06

Customer Notifications

Depending on regulatory requirements and banking policies, customers may receive notifications before and/or after recurring payments. These notifications typically include:

  • Upcoming debit reminders
  • Payment confirmations
  • Successful debit notifications
  • Failed payment alerts
  • Mandate modification confirmations

These updates help customers stay informed and maintain transparency.

07

Manage the e-Mandate

Customers retain full control over their e-Mandate throughout its lifecycle. They can typically:

  • View active mandates
  • Update payment limits (where permitted)
  • Change mandate validity
  • Pause or suspend recurring payments
  • Cancel the mandate when it is no longer required

Changes can usually be made through the bank's online portal, mobile banking application, or the merchant's platform, subject to applicable policies.
